Privacy Policy — 小小汉字 (Hanzi Kids)

Last updated: 19 August 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how the 小小汉字 (Hanzi Kids) mobile application ("the App"), published by Shenbee ("we", "us"), handles information. The App is an offline Chinese-character learning tool for children. By using the App you agree to this policy.

1. No account, no sign-in

The App does not require you to create an account or provide any name, email address, or phone number. You can use the App without identifying yourself.

2. Information stored on your device

The App works fully offline. Your child's learning progress, favorites, practice records, and settings are stored locally on your device only (via the operating system's local storage). We do not collect, transmit, or have access to this information. Uninstalling the App removes it.

3. Purchases

The App offers a one-time in-app purchase to unlock the full experience (lessons for ages 5+). Purchases are processed by Google Play (Android) or the Apple App Store (iOS) and managed through RevenueCat, Inc., our purchase-infrastructure provider. On iOS, a simple parental gate (a short math question) appears before the purchase screen so a child cannot complete a purchase alone.

To validate and restore your purchase, RevenueCat receives only an anonymous, randomly generated app-user identifier and the purchase, transaction, and entitlement details provided by the store. It does not receive your credit-card or other payment details, and it does not receive handwriting or learning data. We do not use this information for advertising, behavioral profiling, or cross-app tracking. RevenueCat may use purchase history to provide receipt validation, entitlement management, fraud prevention, and aggregate purchase reporting as part of its service. See RevenueCat's Privacy Policy, Google's Privacy Policy, and Apple's Privacy Policy.

4. Handwriting recognition

The trace-to-write practice feature uses Google's on-device ML Kit Digital Ink Recognition. The first time the feature is used, the App downloads a Chinese handwriting model (on Android via Google Play services; on iOS as an on-device model download); thereafter it runs entirely on your device. Strokes your child draws are processed locally and are never uploaded to us.

ML Kit SDK metrics. Although handwriting strokes and recognition results remain on the device, the ML Kit SDK may send limited technical metrics to Google. These can include the device manufacturer/model and operating-system build, available ML hardware accelerators, the App's bundle ID and version, a per-installation identifier that is not intended to uniquely identify a user or physical device, performance metrics such as latency, API configuration, feature-event types, error codes, and the configured Digital Ink language. Google uses these metrics for SDK diagnostics, maintenance, performance and usage analysis, API improvement, and abuse prevention. They do not include handwriting strokes, images, recognition results, names, contact details, location, or the device advertising ID. See Google's ML Kit data disclosure and ML Kit Terms.

5. No advertising

The App contains no advertising and does not use the device advertising identifier. It does not track your child across apps or websites.

6. Children's privacy (COPPA / GDPR-K)

The App is intended for children aged 4–10 and is therefore treated as directed to children under the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), the children's provisions of the EU/UK GDPR, Google Play's Families policy, and Apple's App Store kids / privacy requirements.

The App is built so that it does not collect personal information from children: there are no accounts and no name, email, phone, or address fields; it does not collect location, contacts, photos, the microphone, or the device advertising identifier; and it shows no advertising. All learning data stays on the device (see §2).

RevenueCat uses an anonymous, randomly generated app-user ID and purchase information solely for the purchase functions described in §3. ML Kit may use a per-installation telemetry identifier solely for SDK diagnostics and usage analysis as described in §4. We do not link either identifier to a child's real-world identity, use them for behavioral advertising or cross-app tracking, or use handwriting content and recognition results for any server-side purpose. Purchases are intended to be initiated by a parent or guardian through Google Play or the App Store (with the parental gate on iOS).

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children beyond what is described above. A parent or guardian who believes we have inadvertently received a child's personal information, or who wishes to review or delete it, may contact us at info@shenbee.com. Because all data is stored only on the device, uninstalling the App also erases every local record.

7. Data security & retention

Because all learning data stays on your device and we operate no user accounts, we do not store personal learning data on our servers. Google may receive and retain the limited ML Kit technical metrics described in §4, and Google, Apple, and RevenueCat may retain purchase records, according to their respective policies.

8. Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date above.
